You’ll want to fork over some cash at Fork ‘N’ Bowl, because this place is full of healthy flavor!

Fork ‘N’ Bowl is a locally owned and completely gluten-free restaurant at 305 Penn Ave. in Scranton. As you may have guessed, their specialty is healthy bowls that you design yourself based on pre-priced templates.

For example, the F’N A bowl comes with two bases, two vegetables, two proteins, and one sauce. But you have virtually endless combinations to fill those slots.

Your bases can be anything from coconut rice to chilled sweet potato noodles, while your vegetables could be hot honey brussels sprouts, basil mushrooms, or lemon-basil broccoli. Proteins include chickpea salad, BBQ chicken, and garlic parmesan shrimp. Your sauce options cover flavors such as cucumber jalapeno, creamy ginger, and buffalo avocado.

If healthy food is your thing, and you don’t mind being bowled over with options, Fork ‘N’ Bowl is definitely worth a visit!

It’s fun to stay at the Greater Scranton YMCA, which is actually located at 706 North Blakely St. in neighboring Dunmore.

As you’d expect from any YMCA, this one features just about everything you’ll need to strength-train or get in your cardio.

The facilities include an aerobics center, fitness center, weight room, gym, courts, indoor running track, pool, and so much more. You can also find scheduled programs there for adults, teens, and children.

The Greater Scranton YMCA offers numerous membership options so you can find the one that works for you!

Next up is the Nearme Cafe, which, despite not actually being in Scranton, is still near you at 700 Main St. in Moosic.

This is a great local place that offers all the traditional breakfast and lunch comforts while skewing toward healthy food. Nearme features multiple coffee and tea options alongside several cold-pressed juices.

Then you can try the avocado toast, yogurt parfait, or side of fruit from the breakfast menu. Lunch features items such as the turkey apple sandwich, beet salad, or rainbow bowl with quinoa, roasted red peppers, hummus, and so much more.

And don’t forget the health-shots that are the smoothie bowls, with ingredients that include fruits and vegetables, acai, and peanut butter!

If you’re on a mission to do some yoga, you may want to check out Mission Yoga at 1440 Capouse Ave. in Scranton! This is actually one of two Mission Yoga locations, with the other one being in South Abington.

Mission Yoga features multiple instructors who teach a variety of yoga classes, including restorative yoga for rejuvenation, slow flow yoga that’s perfect for beginners, and yin yoga for deep meditation.

You can also try out some aerial classes in ballet, yoga, lyra, and aerial silks.

Mission Yoga is a gem of a health spot in Scranton, so see what they’re all about!

Last on our list of healthy spots in Scranton is the truly unique Chifa Peru, a Peruvian-Chinese restaurant located at 301 N. Main Ave. in Scranton.

Chifa Peru’s in-house chef has 20 years’ experience cooking in quality restaurants and uses only seasonal ingredients from local farms.

Try some things you’ve never had before, like the whole polla a la brasa, a Peruvian rotisserie chicken with fries and a salad. Or the maduros, fried soft plantains. The more Chinese-inspired food here is on-point, too, with offerings such as kam lu wonton and tay pa. Both are mixes of vegetables and several kinds of meat in sauce.

Chifa Peru is certainly a standout spot in our area for finely prepared international food, so check them out if you haven’t yet!
